9 Spring 2018 Beauty Outliers

by Brie Leach

I'm just like you. I want to try the best new products our beloved beauty houses have to offer this Spring. But it's hard to figure out what to get that you know you'll use. So, I did some research and checked out what beauty looks were trending for Spring Fashion week and then looked up what products were launching this year and put it all together. I decided what my favorite trends were and why, and paired them with my favorite brands that were coming out with an item that coincided with that trend. Brilliant? Call me the Malcom Gladwell of beauty, if you will.

Here it is - 9 Spring 2018 Beauty Outliers

After such dry winter conditions, I wasn't surprised that women are ditching those popular matte lipsticks for something with hydration. Although there were a lot of new tinted glosses and lip oils coming out, these were the 2 I knew I would actually use-- like throw in my purse and use pretty much every day and night. There was a lot of glittery ones with the WOW factor, but I find that those novelty items are fun for like 3 days, and then I'm back to my OG basics like these:

Dewey, glazed, strobing, even glittering skin is another rebellion against the dryness of winter and I LOVE. Charlotte Tilbury crushed it all last year, so I fully back anything she is launching in 2018, especially this brightening primer. There were no new foundation launches this year, wth people? So I leave you with Le Mértier De Beauté's classic liquid foundation, creamy, lightweight, hydrating, yesss. If you're one of my clients then you know it's is my jam. Liquid foundation is the best base to build on as needed. The brand Hourglass, if it were a person, would be a vision of class and high-end beauty, with just the right amount of badass-ness. They just launched this cheek strobing highlight stick and you bet it will replace the one I'm currently using.

Neutral-toned metallics, whether on the cheeks or eyes create a moisturized look without the heaviness and unreliability of actual oil. I get every skin-colored shimmer product I can get my hands on, and this one is my fave--  The Nar's shadow stick. This replaced my Anastasia shimmer stick that I loved, but wasn't as long-lasting and would just blend away and disappear over time. I integrate this, in some way or another, on almost every single makeup app I do.

Secondly, the monochromatic palette of 2017 (where you use the same color on your lids, cheeks and lips) is not dead, and I'm not ready to say good-bye either. But in 2018 it got a metallic and glittery makeover. This is one of the trends that I jumped on and do regularly, on my clients and myself. And I'm even willing to jump on this glittery Bite multi-stick. One and done!

With all the beautiful and bright textures of Spring, a contrasting eyeliner and full eyebrows is a must. Unfortunately you'll have to wait a week for my top pic from Pat McGrath, the queen of the runway beauty scene. She is a makeup god amongst us and finally came out with her own makeup line in 2015, Pat McGrath Labs.
